A les portes del mas s’hi ha mantingut un ganxo metàl·lic. «En Ciscu ens va explicar que penjaven un llum perquè quan tornessis de pasturar els servís de guia, i l’hem volgut mantenir, és fantàstic, i el tornarem a encendre» relata Donald Reid, que seguint l’esperit del que espera el Parc Natural per als paratges pretén «tornar a la vida l’antiga masia» i ajudar a recuperar juntament amb el parc i la gent del territori el patrimoni cultural, natural i la biodiversitat d’un espai natural avui protegit que adaptant-se a la realitat actual s’espera mantenir.

Ara, en ple Parc Natural del Cap de Creus, restauren una masia per a convertir-la en la casa de turisme rural Mas dels Arbres. «Després de 30 anys viatjant necessitava canviar d’estil de vida», explica. El repte, però, és majúscul. I és que a banda de recuperar la masia i habilitar-la, ha de beure d’una tradició que desconeix: la masia com a patrimoni cultural i paisatgístic. «He d’aprendre com funciona», admet. «Tot és nou per mi, és com si estigués aprenent una altra professió». Però, amb tot, està emocionat amb els gestos d’aprovació que han rebut. «Els veïns ens ajuden, estan agraïts que recuperem una masia amb tant d’amor, respecte i entusiasme». Fins i tot, assegura, «ens venen a donar les gràcies».
